EPOS Insights 1-5

Summary:

EPOS insights are publications summarising the most relevant outcomes of the EU funded EPOS project. The overall aim of the EPOS project is to enable cross-sectorial industrial symbiosis and provide a wide range of technological and organisational options for making business and operations more efficient, more cost-effective, more competitive & more sustainable across process sectors.

Market study

This insight summarises the investigation of both the potential for industrial symbiosis in Europe, and the main requirements by local managers for implementing symbiotic initiatives.

Analysis of 5 European industrial clusters

This insight summarises the preliminary qualitative analyses on a selection of five European clusters in view of their potential for cross-sectorial collaboration. This work converges to provide an analysis of EPOS industrial sites and their potential for clustering in order to achieve resource and energy efficiency, especially focusing on industrial symbiosis.

Key performance indicators for industries

This insight summarises the long list of metrics and system settings selected via a joint effort of process industries and academia in view of enabling the development of an integrated industrial symbiosis methodology.

Data collection in the industries

This insight summarises the data collection process carried out in the EPOS sites and clusters in order to build data capacity and knowledge per sector, and setting a common sector reference situation.

Dunkirk: EPOS demo site

This insight summarises the history, scope and growth of the Dunkirk cluster, located in the North of France. The Dunkirk district cluster is selected as the EPOS demo site, based on its long standing collaboration with the local community in the form of district heating and utilities symbiosis.

Enhanced energy and resource Efficiency and Performance in process industry Operations via onsite and cross-sectorial Symbiosis

The EPOS project brings together 5 global process industries from 5 key relevant sectors: steel, cement, chemicals, minerals and engineering.

EPOS's main objective is to enable cross-sectorial Industrial Symbiosis (IS) and provide a wide range of technological and organisational options for making business and operations more efficient, more cost-effective, more competitiveand more sustainable across process sectors.

The research project receives funding from the European Community‘s Framework Programme for Research and Innovation Horizon 2020 (2014-2020) under grant agreement no. 679386. This work was supported by the Swiss State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI) under contract number 15.0217.
