Processes4Planet Session at INDTech 2024

Transformation of European Energy Intensive Industries on the Way to Climate Neutrality

A.SPIRE - as the European Association committed to managing and implementing the Processes4Planet co-programmed Partnership and bringing together ten sectors of the European process industry - co-organises, with DG RTD E3, the Processes4Planet session at INDTech 2024. The European Union flagship event will take place in Namur, Belgium from 3 to 5 June 2024 and will gather representatives from research organisations, industry, SMEs, and policymakers to discuss the challenges and the future of industrial technologies.

The P4Planet session - Transformation of European Energy Intensive Industries on the Way to Climate Neutrality will take place on 4 June 2024 from 10h30 to 12h00 and will address the crucial role that electrification and the integration of renewables and alternative sustainable energy will play in the decarbonisation of the process industries. Furthermore, the session will explain the perspectives and options for ways forward of different Energy Intensive Industry sectors regarding the EU climate neutrality agenda, including discussion about 2040 climate targets, and their ambitions to become net-zero, as well as their approaches to electrification and the integration of renewable energies in the Energy Intensive Industries ecosystems. The A.SPIRE Community has built P4Planet’s cross-sectoral Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda 2050 identifying the R&I challenges and needs of the European Process Industry.

The panel of the P4Planet session includes speakers from the industry and the European Commission and aims to map the research and innovation landscape and deployment needs. The session will be interactive and the speakers will present the Processes4Planet projects they are coordinating, alongside relevant industrial cases and emerging innovative technologies.  Representatives of the European Commission will explain the political context and the role of R&I in reaching Europe’s climate goals.

The panellists are Garbiñe Guiu Etxeberria from DG RTD, Marzena Rogalska from EC DG CLIMA, Jean-Yves Tilquin from Carmeuse, Anna Domènech from Barna Steel (CELSA group), Christian Leroy from European Aluminium, and Paola Mazzucchelli from CIRCE. The session will be moderated by Angels Orduña, A.SPIRE Executive Director.

Moreover, A.SPIRE will host a booth in the vibrant exhibition space at the Halle AI Chair venue, showcasing the association’s latest achievements and activities and the commitment of the community to the green and digital transition.
