A.SPIRE Community Day
On 18 April 2023, the A.SPIRE Community Day took place in a wonderful setting overlooking the estuary of the River Tagus in Lisbon, Portugal. The Executive Director of A.SPIRE, Angels Orduña, remarked that the beautiful scenery was a well-deserved treat for the association’s members, who once again reiterated their commitment and active involvement in transforming the European energy-intensive industry.
The day was filled with inspiring ideas and round-table conversations where our members delved into matters relevant to the process industry. The round-table discussions orbited around crucial and innovative topics, focusing on climate neutrality, circularity and competitiveness of European process industries. The themes addressed were heat-driven processes, green and resilient flexible production processes, renewable energy carriers, smart integration of net zero, circular, safe and clean processing technologies and products, CO2 Capture and the strive for human-centric, sustainable and resilient energy-intensive industries.
The highlight of the event was the high-level panel with representatives from the Portuguese industry, co-organised by A.SPIRE and ISQ. The panellists included The Navigator Company (from the pulp and paper sector), Vista Allegre (from the ceramic sector), and a representative from the Portuguese NCP (National Contact Points for Horizon Europe). The topics addressed revolved around the Portuguese Research & Innovation landscape and priorities, the applicability of Hubs4Circularity in Portugal, and the challenges that companies face in achieving climate neutrality and circularity in their operations. The main hurdles highlighted by the panellists were related to talent attraction, the need for green and renewable electricity, and favourable market conditions and regulations. The dialogues were lively and led to a fruitful exchange of expertise.
